OVERVIEW AND ROLE
Teamwork Englewood is a growing not for profit organization serving the Greater Englewood
community. The organization offers a number of programming services such as assistance to
returning citizens, youth development programming, workforce development services, and
parent programming. The organization’s mission is to improve the quality of life of the residents
and stakeholders of Englewood by facilitating economic, educational and social opportunities.
The Human Resources Associate will be responsible for building a positive team culture,
providing guidance and advice to managers and employees on a variety of human resource
topics including recruitment, employee relations, organizational structure, and training and
development, complying with all federal and state employment laws, providing professional
development and maintaining general HR operational procedures.
OPERATIONS
● Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local labor and employment laws
● Assist in the hiring process of employees, including recruitment, interviews, background
checks, verifying references, issuing employment contracts and modifying hiring process
as needed
● Manage new-hire onboarding and offboarding procedures, including organizing
employee orientation, creating new employee files, administering employee handbooks,
ensuring completion of new hire forms (I9, W2, payroll, etc.), and administering exit
interviews, COBRA and other separation paperwork as necessary
● Organize, maintain and update employee HRIS information and files as needed
● Respond to IDES claims, FMLA and accommodation requests in a timely manner
● Conduct and manage payroll and employee benefits
● Keep staff informed on policies, benefit resources, organizational events and other
pertinent information
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
● Assist leadership in development of productive management techniques
● Identify professional learning and growth opportunities to support employees ongoing
professional development.
● Promote a standard of supervision grounded in inclusive leadership practices such as
building strong relationships, active listening, clear and transparent communication,
consistent and timely feedback and setting clear expectations.
● Provide coaching, training and resources to help develop effective conflict resolution,
management and communication skills.
TRAINING
● Steward a culture of learning and growth.
● Manage annual compliance training for staff including harassment, fraud, etc.
● Manage conflict resolution trainings that are a restorative approach
● Identify, recommend and assist with any coaching and professional development training
opportunities for all employees
EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT
● Foster positive employee relations
● Manage, document and resolve employee complaints or issues; where applicable,
conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations while ensuring compliance and
adherence to policy, procedure, and law within a timely manner
● Assist with performance review and reporting for staff
● Prepare materials and help organize employee performance reviews
● Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on a variety of topics
CULTURE & COMMUNICATION
● Help build a positive team working culture
● Encourage positive communication amongst the team
● Facilitate team retreat and team building activities
● Encourage and support supervisors to maintain code of conduct for staff
● Develop, communicate and administer HR policies and procedures that maintain and
improve employee relations and shape organizational culture.
● Proactively engage employees to improve working relationships, build morale, and
increase productivity and retention by communicating openly and frequently
● Establish trust and dependability with consistency in work ethic and following up in a
timely manner
QUALIFICATIONS
● Associate Degree required, (Bachelor’s degree preferred in human resources,
business administration, or related field).
●Minimum of 3+ years HR experience preferably in a nonprofit setting
● Experience with HRIS systems
● Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
● Knowledge of employment laws and regulations, particularly in Illinois.
●Competence in various Human Resources functional areas; recruitment,
onboarding/offboarding, employee relations, training and organizational development
● SHRM-CP or PHR certification is a plus.

hand knowledge of the Englewood community is a plus
● Culturally competent and comfortable discussing race, gender, and power structures
● Great attention to detail with ability to work independently, identify and address
organizational gaps, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
● Strong ability to multi-task and work well in an environment subject to changing priorities
and demands
● Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
● Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate with all
levels within the organization
RELEVANT SOFTWARE & TOOLS
● Google Apps/Drive
● Paychex Payroll System preferred
● Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
